Robin Cook

A real blow to my stomach. A rare breed - a politician of total honesty and integrity. He had the failings of a man - women and horses - but he also had the sharpest intellect of any politician that I have met in the last twenty years. I say that quite deliberately, not to demean the man, but 'cos Tony Benn is the sharpest intellectiual mind that I have ever met - without the usual failings.

But Tony's obit' or mine (hopefully writtten by him ) are for another day.

Yesterday and today and tomorrow we must mourn a man who would fight the good fight - be it unilateral nuclear disarmanent, ridding the world of apartheid, banning explosive land mines or the banning of Trades Unions at GCHQ. He was a TROJAN.

He did not beleive in God - but somewhere a god of any faith is saying, "Welcome Robin you are one of a very rare breed. Sit at my right hand and advise on what I can do for this terrible, terrible world below us. " And Robin has already replied, "Let's get to work then".
