Waves of Mass destruction
I was appalled by the intellectual highbrows on Newsnight this evening, starting to circle like crows over a corpse, condemning the emotional over reaction to the sunami disaster.
Okay we must listen to the other persons point of view and accept that there will be diverse opinions. But some of these highbrow farts make a living out of taking the opposite point of view and dissecting ordinary thoughts into a sort of game as if they are attempting to split the atom. These are the sort of plonkers who elevate Damien Hurst and Tracy Amen into the higher stratosphere of culture whilst they are in fact just con. artists.
However there have been fair points made such as - why concentrate on this disaster when there is starvation occurring all the time. Easy answer take out a monthly direct debit to War on Want, Christian Aid , or whatever charities that you would like to continuously donate to.
I had a long conversation yesterday with the lady who runs the Kapers healthfood shop in Tavistock who was concerned that money would be diverted away from other charities such as the RSPCA, British Heart Foundation etc. There isn't a problem - give a quid a month to whichever charity takes your fancy - but the continuity of giving is what is important.
However I did introduce GIFT AID so that if you covenant accordingly for every pound you contribute I will donate 28p out of my coffers. Well not actually mine but yours - if you understand what I mean.
Time for bed. If I can get any sleep, now that the hell raisers above are back from their hols.
If they interrupt me again tonight I will try and get an ASBO served on them.
I'm not bitter only sad
Gordon
P.S. I personally am impressed with what they do at http://oxfam.org.uk
