The George Cross

I will shortly be selling one of these medals on ebay for a friend of mine. It is very beatiful but it comes with strings.

It is the third one ever awarded to a British Army Officer. It was awarded to OFFICERS ONLY during the first world war. Why? If the platoon refused to go over the top, to near certain death, then they were all executed on the spot for disobeying orders. How therefore did the powers on high provide an incentive for officers to go over the top with their men. Ah - you awarded them the George Cross.
Stinks doesn' it? Yet another reason to be ashamed of being British.
